Psalm 23

The Lord the Shepherd of His People

A Psalm of David.

The Lord is my shepherd;
I shall not want.
He makes me to lie down in green pastures;
He leads me beside the still waters.
He restores my soul;
He leads me in the paths of righteousness
For His name’s sake.

Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death,
I will fear no evil;
For You are with me;
Your rod and Your staff, they comfort me.

You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies;
You anoint my head with oil;
My cup runs over.
Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me
All the days of my life;
And I will dwell in the house of the Lord

The worship song today is by a singer that was popular about 20 years ago! Since she is singing the actual verses that we are reading today, I chose to post this one. Maybe it will help this passage to be your prayer today.

This is a psalm that has comforted millions. Help me to see that comfort today as I pray Your Word. It all starts with realizing that I have everything in You. Just like everyone else, I love the latest and greatest thing, but this psalm reminds me to not allow things to take my focus off of you. You restore my soul, You lead me in the right direction, and You are right here with me no matter what happens. That is the part that has comforted people walking through the valley. You never leave them! Lord, when I realize that, my life is like a cup running over. When I realize that Your presence is for my good, I want to dwell in Your house forever!
