A Prayer of Faith in Time of Distress
To the Chief Musician. With stringed instruments. On an eight-stringed harp. A Psalm of David.
6 O Lord, do not rebuke me in Your anger,
Nor chasten me in Your hot displeasure.
2 Have mercy on me, O Lord, for I am weak;
O Lord, heal me, for my bones are troubled.
3 My soul also is greatly troubled;
But You, O Lord—how long?
4 Return, O Lord, deliver me!
Oh, save me for Your mercies’ sake!
5 For in death there is no remembrance of You;
In the grave who will give You thanks?
6 I am weary with my groaning;
All night I make my bed swim;
I drench my couch with my tears.
7 My eye wastes away because of grief;
It grows old because of all my enemies.
8 Depart from me, all you workers of iniquity;
For the Lord has heard the voice of my weeping.
9 The Lord has heard my supplication;
The Lord will receive my prayer.
10 Let all my enemies be ashamed and greatly troubled;
Let them turn back and be ashamed suddenly.

As I reflect on Psalm 6 today and try to capture its meaning in my own words, these are the words that I share today…
I realize that there are times when You need to teach me something. I guess I’m not a very good learner because it seems You are always trying to teach me the same things – the same lessons! In a world filled with easy-believism (Christianity without discipline), I realize that true Christianity is You shaping me daily – even when it’s not pleasant! I realize that true discipleship means that I’m going to face what a loving parent does – discipline. You can’t stand the things in my life that aren’t honoring to You – so You love me too much to leave me as I am. But I’m going to agree with the psalmist on this one…I pray for Your mercy during those lessons You are trying to teach me.
In the meantime, I pray that You will disrupt the plans of the enemy in his desire to keep me from growing in You. Help me to draw close to You and learn even in the challenging times. This is a journey of faith and trust in You – help me to experience new victories today in You. Thank You that You DELIVER me daily!
