Praying the Psalms - Blog Logo

You have made it to the 3rd day of our journey of Praying the Psalms. By next week this will be a normal part of your day as it becomes a great habit! Today we read one of the great worship psalms of David (there are lots of them). From distress to praise, David wrote with great honesty and transparency. I pray that this will lead us to worship the Lord as He invites us to share our hearts with Him.

Psalm 4

To the Chief Musician. With stringed instruments. A Psalm of David.

Hear me when I call, O God of my righteousness!
You have relieved me in my distress;
Have mercy on me, and hear my prayer.

How long, O you sons of men,
Will you turn my glory to shame?
How long will you love worthlessness
And seek falsehood? Selah
But know that the Lord has set apart for Himself him who is godly;
The Lord will hear when I call to Him.

Be angry, and do not sin.
Meditate within your heart on your bed, and be still. Selah
Offer the sacrifices of righteousness,
And put your trust in the Lord.

There are many who say,
“Who will show us any good?”
Lord, lift up the light of Your countenance upon us.
You have put gladness in my heart,
More than in the season that their grain and wine increased.
I will both lie down in peace, and sleep;
For You alone, O Lord, make me dwell in safety.

Praying the Psalms

Today as I seek to continue this privilege of Praying the Psalms, I ask that you would fill my prayer life with these truths that David shared! Like David, help me to remember all that you have already done in my life! Don’t let me forget the ways that you have answered prayers and helped me in past trials. As I remember your faithfulness, help me to keep calling on You! And Lord, I need David’s perspective that You are in control of it all – in good and in bad. When the going get’s tough, help me to have the kind of upward perspective that David shares here in Psalm 4. Give me gladness; help me to lie down in peace and sleep each and every day as I trust Your BIG plan! Amen.
