Welcome to Day 1 of the Praying the Psalms Journey 2015. I hope that this journey will prove to deepen your prayer life and provide consistency in approaching the throne of grace. As the days get warmer and the summer gets busy, I hope that you will still remain committed to the disciplines of studying God’s Word and spending time with Him in prayer. You can subscribe to these posts in the column on the side. Doing so will allow you to receive these posts in your inbox each day. God bless you on this journey.
Blessed is the man
Who walks not in the counsel of the ungodly,
Nor stands in the path of sinners,
Nor sits in the seat of the scornful;
2 But his delight is in the law of the Lord,
And in His law he meditates day and night.
3 He shall be like a tree
Planted by the rivers of water,
That brings forth its fruit in its season,
Whose leaf also shall not wither;
And whatever he does shall prosper.
4 The ungodly are not so,
But are like the chaff which the wind drives away.
5 Therefore the ungodly shall not stand in the judgment,
Nor sinners in the congregation of the righteous.
6 For the Lord knows the way of the righteous,
But the way of the ungodly shall perish.
Praying the Psalms
Lord, as I begin this journey of praying Your Word, the first thing that comes to mind is to ask that You will guide me by Your wisdom alone. Like everyone else, I have a lot of voices speaking into my life and I need Your guidance alone for each and every decision. I don’t want to walk in the counsel of those who are not seeking Your plan and Your will. I only want what You are desiring for me.
With that goal in mind, help me to slow down and meditate on what You’re teaching me. As You know, I have so much to learn and I want to grow daily. Help me to plant myself in Your Word! My growth is not going to be through busy work and constant activities. The truth is, I’ve tried growing lots of other ways, but this first Psalm reminds me it’s only going to be through diving into Your Word.
As I seek Your will and dive into Your Word, open my eyes to the areas where I’m not bearing fruit – and help me to be willing to make the changes you’re leading me to make in my life personally in order to begin producing as You have promised. I don’t want to be blown around like the wind. I want to be firmly planted. Thank you Lord for this opportunity to pray Your Word.
